Is AED 1,500 fair for Dubai mold removal?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It must have been growing slowly for a while but it's really visible now, and I'm worried about our health. I got one quote from a cleaning company for AED 1,500 to treat it, but I have no idea if that's a fair price or if it's something I can tackle myself with bleach from ACE Hardware. Is AED 1,500 a reasonable price for professional mold remediation in a Dubai apartment, or is this an overcharge?

That price is not necessarily an overcharge, but it's impossible to judge without a diagnostic inspection. The cost for professional remediation is driven by the root cause, the type of mold, and the extent of the contamination behind the surface.

For a large patch on an interior wall, the primary concern is identifying the moisture source. In Dubai's climate, this is often due to a small, hidden plumbing leak from an adjacent bathroom, condensation from an AC duct running inside the wall, or moisture wicking from a poorly sealed balcony above. A reputable company will not just clean the visible mold; they must find and fix the water issue or it will return.

The scope of work for that price should include: containment of the area to prevent spore spread, removal of contaminated porous materials like drywall or insulation, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment of the cavity, and finally repairing the wall. A company offering a flat rate without this diagnostic step is a red flag.

For a proper assessment, request an on-site inspection from a provider with a certified mold inspector. They should use moisture meters and thermal cameras to trace the leak and may recommend air or surface sampling to identify the species, which determines the remediation protocol. A small patch you can cover with your hand might be a DIY project if the moisture source is eliminated, but for anything larger, professional intervention is advised to ensure it's done safely and effectively.
