Who can fix recurring black mold in my Dubai bathroom?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the tiles in my master bathroom in Jumeirah Village Circle has been getting these black spots for a couple of months now. I wiped it away, but it just came back darker and spread to the ceiling corner. It’s definitely worse since the humidity shot up. Who is the most reliable and affordable company in Dubai to properly fix this, not just clean it?

Recurring black mould in bathrooms, particularly in JVC, is almost always a humidity and condensation issue, not just a surface problem. Dubai's high ambient humidity, combined with hot showers and often inadequate bathroom ventilation, creates the perfect environment for mould to thrive inside walls and behind tiles, which is why it returns after wiping.

The most reliable solution requires a two-step approach: proper diagnosis followed by remediation. You need a professional who first identifies the moisture source—whether it's condensation, a hidden pipe leak, or water seepage from the balcony above. They should use tools like moisture meters and thermal cameras to assess the extent behind the surfaces. Then, remediation involves removing the affected grout and potentially sections of drywall, treating the underlying structure with antimicrobial solutions, and sealing it before reinstalling tiles with mould-inhibiting grout. Simply cleaning or painting over it will fail.

For companies, look for providers certified by organisations like the IICRC, which sets global standards for remediation. They should offer a detailed moisture inspection report and a clear scope of work that addresses the root cause, not just the visible mould. Many general cleaning companies are not equipped for this level of structural drying and containment. While I can't recommend a specific "affordable" company, the key is to request assessments from several firms that emphasise diagnostic testing and offer a warranty on their work, ensuring they fix the cause and not just the symptom.

To prevent recurrence, ensure your bathroom's exhaust fan is powerful enough, runs for at least 30 minutes after showers, and that its ducting actually vents outside, not just into the ceiling void. Keeping AC running to dehumidify the apartment is also critical.
