How urgent is treating black mold in a damp bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small black spots forming in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It's on the wall that faces the outside of our villa in Jumeirah. The humid weather lately has made the whole room feel a bit damp. How urgently do I need to get this treated before it spreads to the rest of the room?

Treat this with high priority. Visible black spots in a damp bedroom corner indicate an active moisture issue that will continue to fuel mold growth. The recent high humidity in Dubai provides the perfect environment for it to spread quickly from that closet into the room itself.

The location on an exterior wall in a Jumeirah villa strongly suggests a thermal bridge—where cool indoor air from your AC meets the warm, humid outdoor wall, causing condensation inside the wall cavity. This hidden moisture source means wiping the visible spots is only a temporary fix.

For a situation like this, a professional inspection is advised to identify the exact moisture source, which could be condensation, a minor leak, or capillary action from the ground. They will use moisture meters to check the wall's saturation level. In many cases, the wall cavity itself requires treatment.

Until you can get it assessed, improve air circulation around the closet immediately. Use a portable dehumidifier in the bedroom to lower the ambient humidity, which can help slow the spread. Avoid storing textiles like winter clothes directly against exterior walls, as they absorb moisture and can become contaminated.
