Black mold behind wardrobe: professional removal cost in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a huge patch of black mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom in our Jumeirah villa. It must have been growing for a while, and I’m worried about our health and it spreading to the walls. Is this a job for a professional mold removal company, and roughly how much would it cost to treat an area about two meters wide?

A patch of black mould behind furniture, especially of that size, almost certainly requires professional remediation. The high humidity and constant air conditioning in Dubai create ideal conditions for mould to penetrate porous materials like drywall and plaster, not just sit on the surface. Spores can easily become airborne and spread during any uncontained DIY removal attempt.

Cost is not fixed and depends entirely on the extent of the damage discovered during inspection. The visible two-meter patch is likely just the tip of the iceberg. A proper assessment will determine if the mould has infiltrated the wall structure, insulation, or the back of the wardrobe itself. In many Dubai villas, this kind of hidden growth originates from a small, unnoticed condensation leak from an AC line in the wall or a minor plumbing issue.

Reputable companies will first conduct an inspection to identify the moisture source and the full scope of contamination before providing a detailed scope of work and cost estimate. Treatment involves containment of the area with negative air pressure, safe removal of affected porous materials, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment of the remaining structure. The final cost is dictated by the square footage of affected area, the materials requiring removal, and the labour for proper containment and disposal. You should request an on-site assessment from a provider that uses lab-based air or surface sampling to verify the mould types and confirm clearance after remediation is complete.
