How to remove and prevent bedroom mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Al Barsha for 2 years and just noticed black spots growing along the bottom of the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It’s an interior wall, and with the AC constantly running, I thought it would be dry, but the musty smell is getting stronger. What’s the best way to remove this mold and, more importantly, what can I do to stop it from coming back for good?

First, identify the moisture source. In Dubai, mold on interior walls is often caused by condensation from poorly insulated AC ducts or chilled water pipes running inside the wall cavity. The constant cooling against the warm wall creates a perpetual damp environment. Simply cleaning the visible mold won't solve the underlying issue.

For removal, wear an N95 mask and gloves. Scrub the area with a microfiber cloth and a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover. Avoid bleach, as it only removes the colour and can worsen indoor air quality. For porous surfaces like drywall, the mold may have penetrated deeply, requiring cutting out and replacing the affected section.

To prevent recurrence, you must address the condensation. An infrared thermal imaging inspection can pinpoint the exact location of the cold bridge within the wall. The solution usually involves properly insulating the cold pipes or ducts. Furthermore, ensure your AC is not set too low; a very high temperature differential increases condensation risk. Maintain indoor humidity levels below 60% using a dehumidifier if necessary.

For a persistent issue in a villa, a professional assessment is recommended to diagnose the hidden cause. Reputable companies in Dubai use lab analysis to identify the mold type and moisture mapping tools to find the source, providing a targeted remediation plan rather than a superficial clean.
