Black spots in wardrobe keep returning, DIY fix or professional?« Back to Previous Page

My wardrobe on the inside wall of our Deira apartment has a bunch of black spots in the corners that keep coming back after I wipe them down. I first noticed it a couple of months ago and it’s definitely getting worse, probably because of all the humidity. Is this something I can fix myself with a vinegar spray or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

That persistent black mould in your wardrobe is a classic Dubai problem, caused by the high humidity and the temperature difference between your cold AC interior and the warm exterior wall. Wiping it away only removes the surface growth, not the root cause.
For a small, recurring patch, you can try a DIY approach. A solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach cleaner (ensure good ventilation) can be effective. However, you must address the moisture source. Check for any plumbing leaks in that wall and ensure the wardrobe isn't pushed completely flush against it, allowing for air circulation. Using a moisture absorber like silica gel inside the wardrobe can help. If the mould returns quickly or covers more than a square foot, the issue is likely inside the wall cavity itself. In Deira's older buildings, this often stems from condensation within the partition wall or a minor, hidden leak. This requires professional assessment. They use moisture meters and borescopes to find the hidden source. Proper remediation involves isolating the area, removing contaminated materials, and applying antimicrobial treatments to prevent regrowth. Without fixing the hidden dampness, the mould will always return. |
