Best dehumidifier for a humid villa in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our villa in Jumeirah 3 gets super humid, especially in the guest bedroom which doesn't get much sun. After this last bout of foggy mornings, I've started seeing these small black speckles forming in the corner of the wardrobe. We run the AC constantly but it's not enough. What's the best dehumidifier or preventative product I can buy to stop this from getting worse before I have to call a professional?

Desiccant dehumidifiers are generally more effective than refrigerant models for Dubai's climate, as they perform better in the high humidity and high ambient temperatures typical here. Look for a unit with a capacity of at least 20-25 liters per day for a bedroom, as smaller units will be overwhelmed. Ensure it has a built-in hygrometer to automatically maintain humidity levels between 45-55%, the range that inhibits most mold growth.
Place the unit in the center of the room or near the source of moisture, ensuring good airflow around it. Running it continuously for the first 48 hours will help pull significant moisture from the walls and furnishings. For a wardrobe, use disposable moisture absorber boxes or hanging bags, which are a good temporary solution for enclosed spaces. However, dehumidifiers treat the symptom, not the root cause. The persistent humidity in that room, especially with constant AC use, suggests a potential issue like inadequate insulation in the external wall creating a cold spot for condensation or insufficient AC airflow. For a lasting solution, a professional inspection is needed to identify and rectify the underlying moisture source, as surface mold in hidden corners often indicates a larger problem within the wall cavity. |
