Mold on wall in Dubai: DIY or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our sofa in the living room has these black, fuzzy patches that keep getting bigger. We're in a ground-floor villa in Jumeirah, and I think it's been slowly growing since the humidity really kicked in a couple of months ago. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but it came back worse. Is this something I can tackle myself with stronger cleaners, or do I need to call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai?

Black mold growth on interior walls in Dubai is almost always caused by a chronic moisture issue, which your vinegar treatment cannot address. The high humidity, combined with potential condensation from your AC system or a minor leak, creates the perfect environment for it to thrive and return stronger.

For a ground-floor villa in Jumeirah, the moisture source could be external humidity penetrating the wall, internal condensation from temperature differences, or even a hidden plumbing leak. The fact it returned after a surface cleaning confirms the issue is within the wall cavity itself. DIY methods with stronger chemicals are not recommended; they only bleach the visible growth and release harmful spores into the air without solving the root dampness problem.

You need a professional inspection. A proper assessment involves using a moisture meter to find the water source and often requires an invasive check behind the wall. Remediation then entails isolating the area, removing contaminated materials like drywall or insulation, HEPA vacuuming, and applying antimicrobial solutions. Crucially, the underlying moisture issue must be fixed to prevent immediate recurrence, which could involve improving ventilation, addressing AC condensation lines, or repairing external waterproofing.

Given the potential health risks from prolonged exposure to mycotoxins and the complexity of a permanent fix, hiring a certified remediation company is the safest course of action. Look for providers that offer a clear diagnostic process and can explain exactly how they will identify and eliminate the moisture source, not just the visible mold.
