Found mold behind wardrobe; fastest way to make room safe?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past month and we can't figure out why. I finally pulled our large wardrobe away from the bedroom wall in our Marina apartment and found a huge patch of black mold growing behind it, probably from the AC condensation. I'm really panicking about their health. What's the fastest and most effective way to deal with this to make the room safe for them again?

First, move the children to another room immediately to stop their exposure to the source. In Dubai's climate, hidden mold from AC condensation leaks is a common issue in areas with poor airflow, like behind furniture.

For a patch this size, professional remediation is the fastest and safest route. DIY attempts often aerosolize spores, spreading the problem. A certified team will contain the area with physical barriers, use HEPA-filtered negative air machines to capture spores, and physically remove the contaminated materials. The underlying cause—likely a condensation line leak or a breach in the building envelope—must be identified and repaired to prevent immediate recurrence.

Once the mold is removed, the area needs to be dried completely with industrial dehumidifiers, a critical step given the UAE's high ambient humidity. A post-remediation verification test from an independent lab is the only way to confirm the space is truly safe for your children to return. This is a serious health concern, and a proper, science-backed remediation process is the most effective way to resolve it.
