Is AC mold remediation needed for my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I suspect the black spots around the vent of our master bedroom AC unit in our Jumeirah Park villa are mold, probably from all the humidity. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it just came back darker. I'm worried about their health but also don't want to get ripped off. Is this a job for a professional mold remediation company, and roughly how much should I expect to pay for an inspection and cleaning for one room?

Black mold around AC vents, especially in humid Jumeirah Park villas, is a common and valid health concern. The high humidity combined with condensation from constant AC use creates an ideal breeding ground. Vinegar often fails on porous surfaces and can actually feed certain mold types, which explains its return.

For persistent black spots and ongoing respiratory symptoms like coughing in children, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The goal is to identify the mold species and its moisture source. In Dubai, remediation isn't just surface cleaning; it involves containing the area, safely removing contaminated materials, and fixing the underlying condensation issue to prevent rapid regrowth.

Costs are highly variable and depend on the extent of the infestation within the ductwork and the unit itself. A proper assessment from a certified provider will detail the scope and associated costs. Look for companies that offer a clear inspection report, often with lab analysis, and a remediation plan before any work begins. This evidence-based approach is your best defense against unnecessary services.
