Is black mold behind furniture urgent to inspect?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the corner of our bedroom wall behind the wardrobe. It's the wall that faces the outside, and I'm worried it might have started after all the heavy dew we had last month. How urgent is it to get a professional mold inspection, or can this wait a few weeks?

In your Dubai climate, that black mold behind the wardrobe is urgent to investigate within the next week or two. The heavy dew you noticed creates the perfect conditions for mold growth, especially on a cold external wall where condensation can form. Leaving it allows the colony to expand and release more spores into your bedroom air.

While not all black mold is the toxic Stachybotrys often feared, any mold can cause significant irritation, particularly worsening allergies, asthma, or causing persistent sinus congestion. The priority is to identify the moisture source. It's likely condensation from the temperature difference between the air-conditioned room and the external wall, but it could also be a hidden seepage issue from the recent weather.

A professional inspection is recommended here because it's a recurring moisture problem and the colony is already spreading. A certified inspector will use a moisture meter to quantify the dampness in the wall and can take an air or tape-lift sample for lab analysis to identify the species. This tells you the actual health risk and helps pinpoint the exact cause, which is critical for effective remediation. In the meantime, improve air circulation around that corner and keep the AC running to manage humidity.
