Need a pro for black mold in Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing a lot lately and I’m starting to worry it’s from mold. I finally pulled out the wardrobe in our master bedroom in our Jumeirah villa and found a huge patch of black mold on the back wall, probably from the humidity. I have no idea how to handle this or what it might cost. Is this a DIY job with bleach, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai?

With the high humidity in Dubai villas, especially in areas like Jumeirah near the coast, this is a common issue. That black patch is a sign of significant moisture accumulation, likely from condensation against the cold exterior wall or a hidden leak.
For a patch larger than one square meter, professional remediation is strongly advised. While bleach can remove surface discoloration, it doesn't address the root moisture problem or effectively kill the mold roots deep within porous materials like concrete and plaster. Improper DIY can aerosolize spores, spreading them to other parts of your home and potentially worsening your children's cough. A proper remediation involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, removing contaminated porous materials (e.g., drywall, insulation), and treating the structure with professional-grade biocides. Crucially, they will then diagnose and resolve the source of the moisture—whether it's inadequate insulation, a plumbing leak, or insufficient ventilation—to prevent it from returning immediately. The cost varies significantly based on the extent of the damage and the required repairs, so an on-site assessment is essential. For health concerns with children, a professional service that provides before-and-after lab testing to confirm the spore count has been reduced to safe levels is the most reliable path forward. |
