Mold in Dubai closet: professional removal needed and cost?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet in Jumeirah. It’s on the wall that faces the outside and feels slightly damp. I’m worried it’s making my allergies worse. Is this a job for a professional mold removal company, and what’s the typical cost for a small area like this in Dubai?

Black spots in a closet on an exterior wall with dampness is a very common issue in Dubai due to the high humidity and temperature differential between the air-conditioned interior and the hot exterior. This condensation creates the perfect damp environment for mold growth, which can absolutely worsen allergies.

For a small, contained area, you may not need a full remediation company yet. First, identify and stop the moisture source. It's often condensation from the AC or a small leak. Wipe the area with a diluted white vinegar solution while wearing a mask to see if it returns. If the mold is only on the surface and the wall is dry, this can sometimes manage it.

However, given the dampness and your allergy symptoms, a professional inspection is the most prudent step. They can use a moisture meter to confirm if the dampness is superficial or if there's a more significant condensation issue within the wall cavity that needs addressing. In Dubai, the climate means mold can regrow quickly if the root moisture problem isn't solved.

Cost is entirely dependent on the cause. A simple surface clean is a minor service, but if the moisture is deeper, the scope and cost increase. Reputable companies will provide a detailed assessment and quote based on the square footage affected and the required corrective actions. Always request that they identify the moisture source and provide a scope of work before agreeing to any service.
