Should I treat black mold myself or call a Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah villa has been acting up and now I've spotted a patch of black mold on the back of the wardrobe in the master bedroom. It’s right against the outside wall and feels slightly damp. With all this humidity lately, I'm worried it's spreading. What's the most effective way to treat this myself, or should I call a professional company here in Dubai right away?

The damp patch and visible mold in your Jumeirah villa are classic signs of a condensation issue, extremely common here with our high humidity and constant AC use. For a small patch (under one square foot), you can attempt to clean it yourself using a solution of diluted white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover, wearing an N95 mask and gloves. However, the key is not just cleaning the surface but fixing the moisture source.

Given the location against an outside wall, this is likely due to thermal bridging—where the cold AC air inside meets the hot, humid exterior wall, causing condensation within the cavity. DIY cleaning often only addresses the surface mold, not the hidden moisture or root cause. The mold will almost certainly return without proper intervention.

For a recurring or dampness-related issue of this size, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. They will use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to locate the exact condensation point within the wall structure. Reputable firms in Dubai follow DM guidelines and provide a lab analysis to confirm the mold type, which dictates the correct remediation protocol. This ensures the problem is solved at its source, preventing regrowth and protecting your property's integrity.
