Is the mold in my playroom making my kids sick?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop since we got back from the summer break, and I’m starting to suspect something in their playroom. I’ve noticed a few black speckles along the bottom of the wall behind the toy cabinet, and the room just has this damp feel to it, especially after the AC turns off. Could this be mold, and who in Dubai can do a proper inspection to check if it’s affecting our health?

Persistent coughing after returning to a Dubai villa is a common sign of a mold issue, especially in a room that feels damp. The black speckles behind the cabinet and the humidity you describe are strong indicators. The climate here, with high outdoor humidity and constant AC use, creates perfect conditions for mold growth due to condensation.

While not all mold is highly toxic, any active growth can cause significant respiratory irritation, particularly in children. The constant coughing is a clear signal their bodies are reacting to something in the indoor air. A proper inspection is the necessary first step.

For a health-concern case like this, a basic visual check isn't enough. You need a professional inspection that includes moisture mapping to find the water source and air sampling to identify the spore types and concentrations in the room's air. In Dubai, look for a provider that uses a certified microbiologist and can provide lab analysis from an accredited UAE laboratory. This evidence is crucial to directly link the mold to the health symptoms and to plan an effective remediation. Avoid companies that offer immediate cleaning without this diagnostic phase; the goal is to identify and fix the root cause, not just wipe away what you can see.
