AC leak causing black mold on wall: DIY or professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking a bit for a couple of months, and now I’m seeing these black splotches spreading on the wall behind the unit. I tried wiping it with bleach but it just came back darker. Is this something I can handle myself with a special cleaner from ACE, or should I just call a professional company for an inspection and quote?

The black splotches returning after a bleach wipe confirm this is an active mold colony, not just surface dirt. In Dubai's high humidity, a persistent AC leak creates the perfect damp environment for mold to root deep into porous materials like drywall and concrete.

A consumer-grade cleaner from ACE is unlikely to solve this. Bleach only removes surface discoloration; it doesn't kill the root structure inside the wall. The leak must be repaired first, or the mold will always return. The spreading suggests significant moisture penetration.

For a recurring leak and spreading growth, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They will identify the leak's source, assess the full extent of moisture damage hidden behind the wall, and take samples for lab analysis to confirm the mold type. This is critical in JVC, where high humidity can cause rapid proliferation.

Attempting a DIY remediation on an active leak often spreads spores and makes the problem worse. A reputable company will provide a scope of work and quote after the inspection, outlining the necessary steps: stopping the leak, removing contaminated materials, and properly treating the area to prevent recurrence.
