Mold remediation needed for Dubai villa closet?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa has had black spots growing on the leather bags and shoes stored inside since the humidity really spiked a couple of months ago. We run the AC constantly, but the musty smell is getting stronger and I'm worried it's spreading into the walls. For a walk-in closet that's roughly 3m x 3m, is this a job for professional mold remediation, and what's a realistic price range I should expect in Dubai for something like this?

For a 3m x 3m walk-in closet in a Jumeirah villa with visible growth on belongings and a persistent musty smell, professional remediation is strongly recommended. The growth on leather items and the odor suggest active colonization, and it is highly likely the mold has spread into the wall cavities behind the closet, which requires specialized techniques to address properly.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and constant AC use create perfect conditions for condensation and mold growth inside wall voids, especially in exterior walls. Simply cleaning the surface is a temporary fix. A proper remediation involves containment to prevent spores from spreading, removal of affected porous materials like drywall or insulation, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment of the structure. The leather items will also need professional cleaning to salvage them.

Expect pricing to be based on the extent of the infestation and the materials affected. For a job of this suspected scale, which includes potential wall demolition and reconstruction, costs are typically higher than a simple surface clean. You should request a detailed assessment and itemized quote from a certified provider. Look for a company that follows IICRC standards and can provide before-and-after lab testing to verify the space has been returned to a healthy condition.
