Black mold in bedroom closet: first step?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on the outside wall of our villa in Arabian Ranches. It wasn't there last month, but with all the humidity lately, it's spread. I'm really worried about our health and it ruining our clothes. What's the first step I should take? Should I call a specialist for testing or is there a company that can just come and remove it safely straight away?

The first step is to identify and stop the moisture source. In Arabian Ranches villas, this is often condensation from the AC system or a small leak in the wall. Wipe the visible mold with a damp cloth and detergent to prevent spores from spreading, but do not attempt a major cleanup yourself.

Given its sudden appearance and spread, a professional inspection is strongly recommended before remediation. The high humidity here accelerates mold growth, and what's visible is often just the surface of a larger problem inside the wall. An inspection with moisture meters and thermal imaging can pinpoint the exact cause—whether it's a leaking pipe, thermal bridging causing condensation, or HVAC issues.

In Dubai, remediation companies must follow DHA guidelines for safe removal, which includes containment of the area and use of HEPA filtration to prevent cross-contamination. For a health-conscious assessment, look for a provider that uses a third-party accredited lab to identify the mold species. This confirms the risk level and ensures the correct remediation method is used, protecting both your health and your property.
