How to find a mold inspector for damp interior walls?« Back to Previous Page

My master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started to feel damp, and a few of my leather handbags have developed faint white spots. This started about a month after the weather got really humid. I’m worried the issue is inside the walls from last winter’s rains and might be spreading. What’s the best way to find a mold inspector who can use a thermal camera or moisture meter to check inside the wall cavities without causing too much damage?

Look for a certified mold inspector who uses a borescope and thermal imaging camera. These tools can detect moisture inside wall cavities without destructive drilling, which is crucial for diagnosing problems in concrete block construction common here.

The dampness on an outside wall, especially after humid weather, strongly suggests condensation or a hidden leak from last winter's rains. A proper inspection should include surface and air sampling to identify the mold type, as some species common in Dubai's climate can cause more significant issues than others.

Avoid companies that offer free inspections followed by immediate remediation; this is a conflict of interest. Instead, choose an independent inspector who provides a detailed report with findings and lab analysis. This report should clearly state the moisture source, mold species present (if any), and the actual extent of the problem before any remediation is discussed.

Verify their credentials. Look for inspectors holding certifications like CMI (Certified Mold Inspector) or IICRC WRT (Water Restoration Technician). These are tangible indicators of training. In Dubai, reputable inspectors will also be knowledgeable about local building codes and the specific condensation challenges caused by our high humidity and year-round AC use.
