Urgent: black mold found, kids coughing. Doctor tonight?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past two weeks and I’m starting to panic. I just pulled our sofa away from the wall in our Deira apartment and found a huge patch of black mold hidden behind it, probably from a slow AC leak. How urgent is this? Should I get them to a doctor immediately and call a remediation company tonight, or is this something I can handle myself this weekend?

Yes, see a doctor tonight to address the children's symptoms. For the mold, this is urgent and requires professional remediation; do not attempt to handle this yourself.

The black mold hidden behind furniture is a serious concern, especially with the persistent coughing. In Dubai's climate, hidden mold from an AC leak can grow rapidly due to high humidity. Disturbing it yourself risks releasing a large number of spores into your apartment's air, potentially worsening the situation.

Professional remediation is necessary here. They will contain the area, safely remove the contaminated materials like drywall, and use HEPA filtration to clean the air. For a case of this size and with health symptoms present, a DIY approach is not advised. Look for a provider that can conduct pre- and post-remediation testing to verify the environment is safe again.
