Mold in Dubai villa closet: DIY or hire professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for two years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, right where the outside wall is. It started small after that heavy dew last month but has definitely gotten bigger. I'm worried about my family's health and the damage to the walls, but I have no idea what this will cost to fix properly. Is this a job I can handle myself with bleach, or should I hire a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai, and what's a realistic price range for a small area like this?

That black patch in your closet is a common issue in Dubai villas, especially on exterior walls where warm, humid air meets cooler air-conditioned surfaces, creating condensation. The persistent humidity here provides the constant moisture mold needs to grow.

For a small, visible patch, a careful DIY approach can be effective if the underlying moisture source is resolved. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar to four parts water, wear an N95 mask and gloves, scrub the area, and allow it to dry completely. Bleach is not recommended as it only surface-cleans and can worsen indoor air quality.

However, hiring a professional is strongly advised in your case. The mold reappeared and is spreading, which indicates a persistent moisture issue within the wall cavity that you cannot see or address yourself. A proper remediation company will use containment procedures to prevent spores from spreading throughout your home during cleanup. More importantly, they will identify and rectify the root cause, which is often a thermal bridge or insulation gap in that exterior wall. Without fixing this, the mold will return.

The cost is not for the small visible cleanup alone but for the diagnostic work to find the moisture entry point and the remediation protocol to ensure it's solved permanently. You should request a detailed assessment and quote that includes moisture mapping and a clear scope of the repair work needed behind the wall.
