Urgent to inspect mold in Dubai villa with kids?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past couple of weeks and I’m starting to suspect it’s the house. I’ve noticed some black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on the outside wall of our villa in Al Barsha. With the humidity lately, I’m worried it’s spreading behind the walls. How urgent is it to get a professional mold inspection done here, and should I be taking my family out of the house until it’s checked?

Given the symptoms and visible mold in a humid climate like Dubai, a professional inspection is recommended. The black spots in your closet and your children's persistent coughing are strong indicators that indoor air quality may be compromised. In Dubai's climate, high humidity and year-round AC use create ideal conditions for mold to thrive inside wall cavities, especially on external villa walls where temperature differences cause condensation.

You do not necessarily need to vacate the home immediately, but it is prudent to limit exposure to the affected area. Keep the closet door closed and ensure the room is well-ventilated. Do not attempt to clean or disturb the mold yourself, as this can release a large number of spores into the air and worsen the situation.

A proper inspection involves more than a visual check; it should include moisture mapping to find the water source and air/o-surface sampling to identify the mold species and concentration. This is crucial because some types, like Aspergillus, are common here and can exacerbate respiratory issues. The inspection will determine the extent of the problem and whether remediation is needed. For a family with children experiencing symptoms, addressing this promptly can help reduce potential health irritants and prevent further structural damage to your villa.
