How much to treat mold in Dubai bedroom AC?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our bedroom in our Jumeirah villa seems to be blowing a faint musty smell, and I just spotted some black speckled patches in the corner behind the wardrobe. It's been like this since the humidity really kicked in a few weeks ago. I'm worried it might be spreading but have no idea what a fair price is to get it properly treated. For a small bedroom, should I expect to pay a few hundred dirhams or is this a bigger job that will cost thousands?

The cost to treat mold in a bedroom AC unit depends entirely on the extent of the contamination, which isn't visible from the outside. For a small bedroom, if the mold is confined to the evaporator coils and drain pan—a common scenario with a musty smell—the treatment is often a targeted cleaning and antimicrobial application. This is a smaller-scale job.

However, black patches on the wall near the unit suggest the mold may have spread into the ductwork or the wall cavity itself due to condensation, a frequent issue in Dubai's humid climate where ACs run year-round. This becomes a larger remediation project involving containment, removal of affected materials, and treating the entire air pathway. The price difference between these two scenarios is significant.

You cannot get an accurate quote without a proper inspection. Reputable companies will assess the situation first, often using a borescope to look inside the ducts, before providing a scope of work and a fixed-price quote. Avoid any company that gives a price over the phone without seeing the job. Always request that the assessment includes identifying the moisture source—often a clogged condensate drain or poor insulation—as fixing that is crucial to prevent immediate recurrence.
