Black mold in Dubai is a common issue due to our high humidity and constant AC use, which creates condensation. The most frequent type found here is Cladosporium, not the infamous "toxic black mold" (Stachybotrys), but any dark-colored mold should be taken seriously as it can cause significant allergic reactions and respiratory irritation.

For a small patch (under one square foot), you can clean it yourself with a vinegar solution or a commercial mold remover. Always wear an N95 mask and gloves. However, if the mold is inside your AC unit, in the ductwork, or covers a larger area, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. DIY efforts often miss the hidden moisture source, and the mold will return.

The critical step is identifying and stopping the moisture. In Dubai, this is usually a leaking pipe, condensation from poorly insulated AC ducts, or water seepage from a balcony or bathroom. Simply cleaning without fixing the leak is ineffective.

For verification, a professional inspection includes moisture mapping and often air or surface sampling sent to an independent microbiology lab. This identifies the species and confirms the cleanup was successful, which is important for peace of mind, especially with children or allergy sufferers at home. Look for providers who offer this documented evidence, not just a visual assessment.
