Is closet mold in Dubai villa urgent to treat?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Al Barsha for about two years and just noticed a patch of black spots growing in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some storage boxes. It wasn't there during the last summer, but with all the humidity lately, it seems to have appeared out of nowhere. Given how quickly things can spread here, is this something I need to get inspected and treated immediately, or is it okay to monitor for a few more weeks?

Yes, closet mold in a Dubai villa should be addressed promptly. The high humidity here, especially during summer and the recent foggy periods, creates an ideal environment for mold to spread quickly behind walls or under flooring.

Visible black spots are just the surface; the underlying cause is often hidden moisture from a small condensation leak, a pipe seepage, or poor air circulation in the enclosed space. Leaving it allows spores to multiply and potentially affect your home's air quality and your family's health, particularly for those with allergies or asthma.

For a small patch (under one square foot), you can clean it yourself with a diluted vinegar or detergent solution, but you must identify and fix the moisture source first. Since this appeared suddenly behind boxes, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the hidden water source that you cannot see, which is the only way to prevent it from returning. In Dubai, remediation standards from entities like the Dubai Municipality guide proper containment and removal to prevent cross-contamination.
