Found mold in villa, need professional inspection?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past month and we can't figure out why. I've just pulled out a storage box from the back of our built-in wardrobe in the master bedroom and found a patch of black fuzzy mold on the wall behind it. We live in a villa in Jumeirah and I'm worried the high humidity is making it worse. Should I get a professional mold inspection done, or is this something I can handle myself first?

Yes, get a professional inspection. Given the location (a built-in wardrobe against a wall), the visible growth, and your children's persistent respiratory symptoms, this is very likely a case that requires expert assessment.

The high humidity in Dubai, especially in coastal areas like Jumeirah, creates ideal conditions for mold to thrive inside wall cavities, under flooring, or within AC units—often out of sight. The visible patch you found is frequently just the tip of the iceberg. A professional inspection uses moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the full extent of the moisture source and hidden growth, which DIY methods almost always miss.

For your children's health, identifying the specific type of mold is also critical, as some species are more problematic than others. This requires an air quality test and surface samples sent to an accredited microbiology lab for analysis, which is a standard part of a proper inspection.

Attempting to clean it yourself first risks dispersing a high concentration of spores throughout your home’s air, potentially worsening the coughs. A science-driven inspection will give you a clear remediation plan and post-clean verification testing to ensure the environment is safe.
