Black mold in bedroom - landlord or cleaning company?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the corner where the wall meets the ceiling in our master bedroom. It’s right above the AC vent and the room has felt really humid lately, even with the AC on constantly. What’s the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call my landlord first, or is there a specific cleaning company that deals with mold?

Contact your landlord immediately and send clear photos of the mold growth. Under Dubai rental regulations (Law No. 26 of 2007), landlords are generally responsible for addressing maintenance issues that affect the habitability of the property, which includes structural mold problems.
This situation requires a professional inspection. The location right above the AC vent and the persistent humidity are strong indicators of a condensation issue within the AC unit or a leak in the ductwork. A general cleaning company will only wipe the visible mold away, which is ineffective and can disturb toxic spores. The underlying moisture problem will cause it to return quickly. You need a specialist who can conduct a proper assessment, including using a moisture meter to find the water source and potentially air sampling to identify the mold type. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and year-round AC use, this is a common issue that requires a science-based approach to resolve permanently. After the landlord acknowledges the issue, they should engage a qualified mold remediation company that provides documented before-and-after results. |
