Is black mold in my Dubai closet dangerous for my baby?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa has had a dark, fuzzy black mold growing in the corners for about two months now, and it’s starting to spread onto some of our shoes and bags. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it just came back worse, and I'm worried about our health since our baby sleeps in the next room. Is this something I need to hire a professional mold remediation company for, and roughly how much would that cost for a walk-in closet in Dubai?

Yes, black mold in a Dubai closet is a health concern, especially with a baby nearby. While not all black molds are the toxic Stachybotrys species, any mold releasing spores into the air can cause respiratory irritation, worsen allergies, and trigger asthma symptoms. Infants are particularly vulnerable due to their developing immune systems.

The rapid regrowth after cleaning with vinegar points to an ongoing moisture source. In Dubai villas, this is often due to high humidity and condensation. Your closet's exterior wall might be a "cold bridge," where warm, humid air condenses inside the wall or on the surface, creating the damp environment mold needs. Year-round AC use can exacerbate this if the closet is poorly ventilated.

Given the spread to personal items and the presence of an infant, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. DIY cleaning often disturbs spores without addressing the root cause. A reputable company will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the moisture source, contain the area to prevent spore spread, safely remove contaminated materials (like affected drywall or insulation), and clean salvageable items. They should also provide a verification test to confirm the space is safe afterward.

For a walk-in closet, the scope and cost of remediation depend entirely on the extent of the hidden moisture damage within the wall cavity. The only way to get an accurate assessment is to request an on-site inspection from a certified mold remediation provider.
