How to permanently remove mold from interior bedroom wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the wall behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It’s an interior wall and the room always feels a bit damp, even with the AC on. What's the best way to get rid of this mold for good without having to tear out the entire wall?

The black spots behind your wardrobe are a classic sign of condensation-related mold growth, extremely common in Dubai bedrooms. The interior wall feels damp because it's likely a cold spot; the AC chills the wall surface, and the humid air condenses on it, creating a perpetual food source for mold. The wardrobe traps this moist air, making it worse.
For a permanent solution, you must first eliminate the moisture source. Move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air circulation. Ensure your AC is serviced and draining properly, as a clogged drain line can raise indoor humidity. Run the AC consistently to control humidity, even when you're out; a setting of 23-24°C is often sufficient to manage condensation. For removal, wear an N95 mask and gloves. For small areas, a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover can scrub away the visible growth. However, if the mold has penetrated the plasterboard or the area is larger than a square meter, professional remediation is strongly advised. DIY cleaning on a porous surface often only removes the surface discoloration, leaving the root system intact to regrow. The only way to be sure it's gone for good is to identify the exact species and moisture level with a professional inspection. They use moisture meters to find the dampness source and can perform air or swab tests to determine the mold type. In severe cases, controlled removal of the affected wall section may be necessary to prevent recurrence and cross-contamination. The goal is to fix the humidity issue first, then address the mold itself. |
