Cost to remove black mold from AC wall in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking into the wall behind it for a while, and now there's a huge patch of black mold spreading there. I tried cleaning a small area with vinegar, but it came back worse. I'm worried about the cost of getting it professionally removed and if it's even safe for us to stay here while it's being fixed. What should I realistically expect to pay for a proper mold remediation job for a wall area about 2 meters wide?

Black mold behind an AC unit is a serious issue in Dubai's climate, as the constant humidity and condensation from a leaking unit creates an ideal environment for it to thrive. Vinegar is ineffective on porous materials like drywall and gypsum board, which is why it returned worse—the moisture source wasn't addressed, and the mold roots remained deep within the wall.

For a 2-meter-wide patch, the cost is not just for surface cleaning. Proper remediation involves identifying and fixing the AC leak first, then likely removing and replacing the affected wall section to eliminate the mold colony entirely. The final price is highly variable and depends on the extent of hidden damage, the materials needing replacement, and the containment procedures required to prevent spores from spreading during the work. You should expect to request a detailed, on-site assessment and quote from a certified remediation provider.

Regarding safety, it is not advisable to remain in the apartment during the actual demolition and removal phase due to the high concentration of airborne spores. A proper contractor will seal the area with plastic sheeting and use negative air pressure machines. For a job of this scale, you and your family may need to vacate for 1-3 days.

Given the visible spread, a professional inspection is critical to assess the health risk and full scope of work. Look for a company that can provide before-and-after documentation, such as lab test results, to verify the space is safe for reoccupation.
