How urgently treat mold causnig kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it’s from the mold I just found behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, but it’s a pretty big black patch that’s been hidden. Given how humid it's been in Dubai lately, how urgently do I need to get this professionally treated?

Treat this with high urgency. Your children's persistent cough is a strong indicator that the mold spores are already airborne and affecting indoor air quality. In Dubai's climate, hidden mold like this thrives due to high humidity and constant AC use, which can create condensation and dampness in unseen spaces.
The patch behind the wardrobe is likely just the visible part of a larger colony. Disturbing it yourself during cleaning can release a massive amount of spores, potentially worsening the respiratory symptoms. Professional inspection is critical to assess the full extent, identify the mold species, and locate the moisture source—which must be fixed to prevent recurrence. For a case involving children's health and a significant hidden growth, a science-driven approach is recommended. This involves containment during remediation to prevent cross-contamination, professional removal, and post-remediation verification to confirm the spore count in the air has returned to acceptable levels. Addressing the root cause, often a small water leak or condensation issue, is the most important step for a long-term solution. |
