Is mold in our villa urgent to clean?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be mold. I just pulled our winter clothes out of the storage closet in our Jumeirah villa and found a bunch of them, especially the ones against the wall, covered in black and green fuzzy spots. This has probably been growing since the humidity started rising a few months ago.
How urgent is it to get this professionally cleaned, and should we be staying somewhere else until it's handled?

Yes, this is urgent to address. The visible growth on clothing, especially concentrated against the wall, indicates a significant moisture issue within the closet structure itself, likely from condensation or a slow leak. In Dubai's climate, this level of growth suggests it has been developing for some time.
For your family's health, particularly with children coughing, it is advisable to stay elsewhere until the area is inspected and contained. The disturbance from handling moldy items will aerosolize spores, potentially worsening respiratory symptoms. Do not attempt to clean it yourself, as improper handling can spread the contamination throughout your home. The priority is a professional inspection to identify the moisture source—often a leaking pipe, AC condensation drain issue, or humidity trapped in an enclosed space. The mold on clothes is a symptom of a larger problem inside the wall or under the flooring. Remediation involves fixing the water source, physically removing the contaminated materials (like affected drywall or insulation), and properly cleaning salvageable items in a controlled manner. Any reputable remediation provider should be able to show you their methodology for containment, removal, and verification that the space is safe—often through post-remediation testing. For a case this visible, a full assessment is the necessary first step. |
