How to stop and prevent bedroom mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has started to feel really damp, especially on the walls facing the outside. I’ve noticed a few small black spots forming behind the wardrobe and the air just smells off, even though we run the AC constantly. We had a lot of that heavy dew over the winter and I’m worried it seeped in. What’s the most effective way to stop this mold from spreading and prevent it from coming back next season?

The dampness and spots are classic signs of condensation-related mold, a very common issue in Jumeirah villas due to the high humidity and temperature differentials. The first step is to address the moisture source. Wipe the affected areas immediately with a diluted white vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water) to kill surface mold; avoid bleach as it doesn't prevent regrowth.
Move the wardrobe a few inches away from the wall to improve air circulation, as stagnant air behind furniture is a prime spot for growth. Your constant AC use is key, but ensure it's set to a consistently cool temperature, ideally between 22-24°C, to effectively dehumidify the air. Running a standalone dehumidifier in the room for a few hours each day can also help pull excess moisture out of the environment. For long-term prevention, identify and seal any minor cracks or gaps in the external wall where humid air might be infiltrating. Consider applying an anti-condensation paint to those problem walls, which provides a thermal barrier. If the black spots are extensive, have spread inside the wall cavity, or you notice a persistent musty smell after cleaning, a professional inspection is recommended. They can use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find hidden dampness and take samples to identify the mold species, which dictates the proper remediation protocol. |
