How to permanently remove closet mold from AC leak?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom closet has been leaking a bit, and now I've found black spots on some of my shoes and the back wall. I wiped it down, but the damp smell is still there and I'm worried it's just going to come back. What's the best way to completely get rid of this mold for good and stop it from spreading to the rest of our clothes?

The leak must be fixed first; permanent mold removal is impossible while the moisture source remains. Contact your building's maintenance to repair the AC drain line or condensate pan. Until it's fixed, the mold will return.

For the existing growth, wiping visible spots is not enough. In Dubai's high humidity, mold spores embed into porous materials like drywall and shoe leather. You'll need to remove and bag any unsalvageable items. Scrub the affected wall area with a detergent solution, but be aware that if the mold has penetrated, the drywall may need to be cut out and replaced.

The damp smell indicates active microbial growth you cannot see. To prevent it from spreading, increase air circulation immediately. Use a portable dehumidifier or fan in the closet and keep the door open. For a permanent solution, the area must be completely dried and then treated.

For a case involving structural materials and personal items, a professional inspection is advised. They can use moisture meters to find hidden dampness and recommend a remediation protocol. In many Dubai villas and apartments, this scenario requires targeted antimicrobial treatment to address the root cause and prevent recurrence across the entire living space, which is why expert assessment is so valuable.
