Is expensive mold removal worth it for Jumeirah villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet in our villa in Jumeirah. It’s gotten worse since the weather got more humid, and I'm worried it's spreading behind the walls. I’ve gotten quotes from companies that range from AED 1,500 to AED 4,000, which seems like a huge difference. For a job like this, is it worth paying for the more expensive professional mold removal service, or are the cheaper options usually sufficient?

The price difference reflects a fundamental gap in methodology, not just marketing. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and constant AC use, surface cleaning often fails because it doesn't address the moisture source or hidden growth.

For a recurring patch in a villa closet, the primary concern is identifying why it's there—likely a combination of interstitial condensation from the AC and poor ventilation. Cheaper services typically spray a biocide and wipe the visible mould, which can disturb spores and push them deeper without solving the humidity problem. The more expensive, science-driven approach should include a moisture survey to find the condensation point, possibly inside the wall, and a remediation plan that contains the area to prevent cross-contamination.

Given your villa's location and the potential for hidden spread, a professional inspection is warranted. The higher quote likely includes proper containment, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial coating, which provides a longer-term solution. For a permanent fix, the service must also advise on correcting the humidity issue, often through improved ventilation or AC servicing. Without addressing the root cause, the mould will almost certainly return, making the cheaper option a temporary and potentially risky solution.
