Urgent to handle black mold in bedroom wall now?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some storage boxes. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and I'm worried it might be spreading inside the wall itself, especially with how humid it's been lately. Is this something I need to get a professional to handle urgently this week, or is it okay to wait until the weekend?

Black mold in a bedroom wall, especially on an exterior surface in Dubai's climate, warrants prompt attention. The high humidity and constant AC use create significant condensation risks inside walls, which can allow mold to spread unseen.

For a patch just discovered, immediate containment is key. This week, move all storage away from the area and avoid disturbing the mold to prevent spores from dispersing. Wipe the visible surface with a diluted vinegar or hydrogen peroxide solution to temporarily suppress it, but understand this only addresses the surface. The critical question is whether there is moisture and growth within the wall cavity, which you cannot assess yourself.

Given the location on an exterior wall, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to determine the extent. They use moisture meters and borescopes to see inside the wall without unnecessary damage. If the mold is isolated and the moisture source fixed, remediation can be straightforward. If it has spread, professional containment and removal are necessary to protect your home's air quality.

Waiting until the weekend is likely acceptable for a small, newly noticed patch, but do not delay the inspection. The longer a hidden moisture issue persists, the greater the potential for structural damage and larger-scale contamination.
