Urgent: Black mold found, kids coughing. Safe cleanup in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the last couple of weeks and I’m starting to panic. I just pulled our sofa away from the wall in our Deira apartment and found a huge patch of black mold spreading behind it, probably from a hidden AC leak. What is the safest and fastest way to get this professionally cleaned without risking our health further? Should we even be staying in the house right now?

Stop using that room immediately and keep your children away from the contaminated area. Persistent coughing is a common reaction to mold spore exposure, especially in children.

For a patch of significant size caused by an AC leak, professional remediation is strongly advised. The high humidity in Dubai apartments creates ideal conditions for mold to regrow if the moisture source isn't fixed and the cleanup isn't thorough. A proper remediation team will first identify and repair the AC leak, then isolate the area with containment barriers to prevent spores from spreading during removal. They use HEPA filtration to clean the air and safely remove the contaminated materials.

Look for a provider that follows IICRC S520 standards, which is the professional protocol for mold remediation. They should be able to provide a post-remediation verification report, often from a third-party inspector, to confirm the area is safe. Until the leak is repaired and the mold is professionally addressed, staying in the home continues the exposure risk.
