Should we hire a pro for small mold removal in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, probably from a slow AC leak. My husband wants to just scrub it with bleach himself, but I'm worried about the health risks for our toddler who sleeps next door. I need to understand if this is something we absolutely need to hire a professional mold remediation company for, and what the typical cost range would be for a small job like this in Dubai.

In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and constant AC use, that black patch is likely more than surface level. The moisture from a slow leak penetrates porous materials like drywall and insulation, allowing mould to root deeply. Bleach only bleaches the visible surface and does not address the hidden colony or the moisture source, so regrowth is almost certain within weeks.

For a toddler's room, professional assessment is strongly advised. Airborne spores from DIY scrubbing can spread throughout the bedroom, potentially exacerbating respiratory issues or allergies. A reputable inspector can identify the mould type and the full extent of the problem with moisture meters and sometimes air or surface sampling for lab analysis.

Small remediation jobs for a contained area like a closet are common. The process involves isolating the area, removing contaminated materials like affected drywall, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment. The critical final step is identifying and fixing the AC leak to prevent recurrence. Costs are not typically exorbitant for a localized job, but you should request a detailed assessment and quote from a certified provider to understand the scope and investment required.
