Child-safe black mold removal in bathroom?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I’m starting to worry it’s from the black mold spots that keep appearing in the corners of our master bathroom. We’re in a villa in Al Barsha, and even with the AC running, the room never feels completely dry, especially after everyone’s morning showers. What’s the most effective and child-safe way to get rid of this for good?

Bathroom mold in Dubai villas is common due to the high humidity, and the black spots are often from condensation after showers. For child-safe removal, start by addressing the moisture source. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and keep the bathroom door open to improve air circulation.

For cleaning, a solution of white vinegar or a baking soda paste is effective and non-toxic. Apply it to the mold, let it sit for an hour, then scrub with a stiff brush. Avoid using bleach, as it only removes the surface color and can release harmful fumes in a poorly ventilated space, especially for children.

If the mold returns quickly or covers a large area (more than one square meter), the issue is likely deeper within the grout or behind the tiles. In these cases, a professional inspection is recommended to identify hidden moisture and the specific mold type, as some species common in humid climates can cause the respiratory irritation you're noticing. They can perform remediation using HEPA vacuums and child-safe antimicrobials to properly resolve it.
