Is musty smell due to hidden mold?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rain we had last month, I noticed a musty smell creeping into our living room. It's so persistent that it's starting to affect how comfortable I feel in there. My kids have even started coughing more often when they’re playing in there. The windows are usually open, but it still doesn’t seem to go away. Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do to fix it?

Yes, the musty smell is quite possibly due to hidden mold. In our experience here in Dubai, such odors are often indicative of mold growth, especially after heavy rains. Mold thrives in damp environments and can produce strong, unpleasant odors that linger even when other moisture sources have been addressed.

In your case, it's crucial to conduct a thorough inspection as soon as possible. Mold can grow behind walls, under floors, or in areas not easily visible, making the source of the smell hard to pinpoint. Given the regulations in the UAE which require buildings to maintain good indoor air quality (IAQ), this situation warrants professional attention.

We recommend calling 800-MOLDS or emailing hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment. Our team will use specialized equipment like moisture meters and thermal cameras to locate hidden mold growth, even where it's not visibly present. Once identified, we can offer remediation services tailored to your specific situation in the UAE.

It’s also important to address any underlying issues that might be contributing to moisture build-up. Check for leaks around pipes or windows, ensure proper ventilation, and consider using dehumidifiers if humidity levels are high. Regularly inspecting areas prone to moisture like basements can help prevent future occurrences of mold growth.

Remember, while the windows being open usually helps with air circulation, it might not be sufficient in this case due to the persistent nature of the smell. A professional inspection is key to ensuring your family's health and comfort in your living space.

Please take prompt action to avoid any potential health risks associated with prolonged exposure to mold spores.
