Black mold in Dubai villa closet: remove myself or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on the outside wall of our villa in Arabian Ranches. It wasn't there during my last clean-out a few months ago, but with all the recent humidity, it seems to have exploded. I'm really worried about it spreading to our clothes and affecting our health. What is the most effective way to safely remove this myself, or should I immediately call a professional company here in Dubai?

Small patches of black mold on non-porous surfaces can sometimes be managed with immediate action. For a closet on an outside villa wall, the first step is identifying and stopping the moisture source, which is often condensation from the temperature difference between the air-conditioned room and the hot exterior wall.
You can clean a small area (under one square meter) by scrubbing with a mixture of detergent and water. Avoid bleach, as it doesn't prevent regrowth and can damage surfaces. After cleaning, dry the area thoroughly with a fan. However, given its rapid appearance and location, this mold is likely feeding on moisture within the wall cavity, which DIY cleaning cannot address. For any mold inside a villa, especially on structural elements, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to locate the hidden dampness source. Remediation here often involves controlled removal of affected materials and applying antimicrobial coatings to prevent recurrence. The high humidity and constant AC use in Dubai create perfect conditions for mold to return if the root cause isn't found and fixed. |
