A professional inspection is recommended to identify the exact moisture source and assess if the mold has spread inside the ductwork. They can also perform air or tape-lift sampling to confirm the species, as not all black-colored mold is the toxic Stachybotrys type, though its presence indicates a persistent moisture problem that needs resolution.
