Can I remove large mold patch myself or need pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has had this damp, earthy smell ever since the weather got really humid a couple of months ago. I finally moved the wardrobe today and found a patch of black, fuzzy mold about the size of a large dinner plate on the back wall and I’m really worried. Is this something I can handle myself with cleaners from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company, and if so, what’s a realistic cost I should expect for a job like this in Dubai?

A patch that size indicates significant moisture penetration, likely from condensation buildup behind the wardrobe on an exterior wall—a common issue in Jumeirah villas due to high humidity and constant AC use creating temperature differentials.

For a patch that large, DIY cleaning is not recommended. Surface cleaners from ACE will only remove the visible growth, not the root hyphae embedded in the plaster or the underlying moisture problem. Disturbing it yourself also risks spreading spores throughout your bedroom.

Professional remediation is advised. Dubai Municipality and DHA guidelines require containment, proper air scrubbing, and antimicrobial treatment for infestations over 1 square meter to prevent cross-contamination. A reputable company will first conduct a moisture survey to find the source—often a thermal bridge or minor leak—then remediate with containment barriers.

Costs are driven by the extent of hidden damage. Expect to budget for assessment, remediation of the wall cavity, and possibly improving room ventilation. Always request a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab to confirm the space is safe; this is a standard industry practice here.
