Is this mold and who should I inspect it?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual, and I've just noticed small black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom where the wall meets the ceiling. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed this, but our villa in Mirdiff feels really humid lately, especially at night. Is this definitely mold, and who should I call for a proper inspection and to find the source of the moisture?

Based on your description, it is highly likely to be mold. The combination of black spots in a corner and a noticeable increase in humidity, especially at night, are classic indicators. In Dubai's climate, this is frequently caused by condensation forming on cooler interior walls, particularly in air-conditioned rooms, creating the damp environment mold needs to grow.

You should call a professional mold inspection company. Avoid general AC cleaning services for this, as the priority is identifying the moisture source, not just cleaning the visible growth. A proper inspector will use tools like a moisture meter and thermal imaging camera to locate the exact source of the water intrusion—which could be a small plumbing leak in the wall, poor insulation causing condensation, or even a roof issue. They should also take air and surface samples for lab analysis to identify the mold species, which is crucial for understanding any potential health risks and planning the correct remediation.

For a villa in Mirdiff, ensuring the company is familiar with local villa construction materials and common issues related to the climate is important. The inspection will be the foundation for any effective remediation, as treating the mold without fixing the moisture problem will lead to it returning quickly.
