Vinegar spray or professional for AC mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be blowing out a weird, damp odor that’s settled into the walls of our master bedroom in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. I wiped away some black spots near the vent, but it came back in just a couple of days and my allergies are going crazy. Is this something I can tackle myself with a vinegar spray, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

That damp odor and recurring black spots near your AC vent are classic signs of an active mold colony, likely within the ductwork or the AC unit itself. In Dubai's climate, AC systems are a primary breeding ground for mold due to constant condensation creating a damp environment.

A vinegar spray is a temporary surface fix and won't address the root cause. The mold you see is just the visible part; the main colony is inside the system, continuously sending spores into your air. This is why your allergies are reacting so strongly.

For a situation where the mold has visibly returned and is causing health symptoms, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. DIY methods often just spread the spores further. The process involves isolating the contaminated HVAC unit, using HEPA-filtered vacuants to remove spores, and applying specialized, non-toxic biocides to the entire system to stop regrowth.

In Dubai, reputable remediation companies should provide before-and-after testing to verify the spore count in your air has been measurably reduced. This is the only way to confirm the job was done correctly and your indoor air quality is safe. Given the location in your bedroom, where you spend hours breathing that air, getting a professional to properly diagnose and remediate the source is the most effective course of action.
