How to get mold inspection in Dubai behind furniture?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. It's been extra humid lately and we keep the AC running, but I'm worried it's gotten out of hand. What's the best way to get a proper mold inspection done here, and should I move the furniture myself before they come?

Move the wardrobe away from the wall immediately to allow air circulation and prevent further spread. In Dubai's high humidity, especially with AC units creating condensation, mold thrives behind large furniture where stagnant air gets trapped.

For a proper inspection, hire a company with certified indoor environmental professionals, not just general cleaners. A legitimate inspection involves more than a visual check; it should include moisture mapping with a protimeter to find the water source and often air or surface sampling to identify the spore types and concentration levels. This is crucial as the black spots could be anything from common Cladosporium to more problematic Stachybotrys.

Look for providers who can produce a detailed report with lab results from an accredited microbiology lab, as this document is essential for any potential landlord discussions or remediation planning. The Dubai Municipality has guidelines on indoor air quality, and a proper report aligns with these standards. Do not attempt to clean it yourself before the inspection, as this can disturb spores and make identification harder. The inspector needs to see the mold in its original state to properly assess the extent of the problem.
