Cost to clean moldy AC in Dubai apartment? DIY or pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been making us all cough, and when I pulled the filter out last weekend, the entire plastic housing behind it was covered in black, fuzzy mold. It's been spreading for a while I think, probably because of the humidity. What's the ballpark cost to get this professionally cleaned for a 2-bedroom apartment, and is it a DIY job or should I definitely call someone?

For a mold infestation of that scale, especially inside the AC unit itself, professional remediation is strongly recommended. The fuzzy black growth indicates an active colony, and disturbing it yourself risks spreading a high volume of spores throughout your apartment, potentially worsening your respiratory symptoms.

In Dubai's climate, the constant condensation inside AC units provides the perfect environment for mold to thrive, particularly in humid areas like JVC. A proper remediation involves more than just wiping the plastic housing; it requires specialized equipment like HEPA vacuums and antimicrobial treatments to address the entire internal evaporator coil and drain pan, which are likely also contaminated. DIY cleaning often misses these critical areas, leading to rapid regrowth.

Costs for professional cleaning are not fixed and depend heavily on the AC unit's type (ceiling cassette, wall-mounted, etc.), the extent of the contamination, and the company's protocol. You can expect a higher quote for a thorough, science-backed service that includes pre- and post-testing to verify the mold has been effectively removed. Always request a detailed assessment and ensure the company can provide documented evidence of the results, not just a visual inspection. For health and efficacy, investing in a professional treatment is the most reliable solution for this scenario.
