Is Jumeirah apartment mold causing our sickness?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past month and my own allergies are going crazy. We've lived in our Jumeirah apartment for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold spreading behind the wardrobe in the master bedroom, which shares a wall with the bathroom. I'm really worried this is what's making us sick. Is this type of mold actually dangerous, and who should I call in Dubai to get it professionally tested and removed?

Persistent coughing and worsened allergies are common symptoms of mold exposure, especially in a humid climate like Dubai's. The black mold behind your wardrobe, likely caused by condensation from the AC or hidden bathroom moisture, is a probable culprit. While not all molds are highly toxic, many species commonly found here, like Cladosporium or Aspergillus, are significant respiratory irritants.

For a situation like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The first step is identifying the mold species through lab testing to understand its potential health impact. In Dubai, look for a DHA-approved indoor environmental company that operates its own microbiology lab. This is crucial because they can provide a certified analysis of the mold type and spore concentration in your air, which is the evidence you need.

Do not attempt to remove it yourself. Disturbing the colony without proper containment can aerosolize the spores, spreading them throughout your apartment and making the problem much worse. A reputable remediation company will use containment barriers, HEPA filtration, and specialized techniques to safely remove the source and treat the area to prevent regrowth.

Given your Jumeirah apartment's location and age, the root cause is almost certainly excess moisture. A proper inspection should also identify and address the source—be it a plumbing leak, poor bathroom ventilation, or condensation from the AC unit—to ensure the mold does not return after cleanup.
