Is mold in my Dubai home urgent?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for about five years, but ever since the humidity really kicked in a couple of months ago, we've noticed dark, fuzzy patches growing along the corner of our master bedroom wall. My husband thinks it's just dirt, but I'm worried it's more serious, especially since our toddler has been sneezing a lot more lately. How urgent is it to get a professional mold inspection here in Dubai, and should we be taking any immediate steps before someone comes to look at it?

Yes, this is urgent. Given the visible growth on the wall and your toddler's increased sneezing, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. Dubai's high humidity, especially in older villas, creates ideal conditions for mold that can rapidly worsen behind walls and in ceiling cavities.

The immediate step is to limit exposure. Keep your toddler out of that room and improve air circulation by running exhaust fans and keeping interior doors open. Do not attempt to scrub the mold yourself, as this can aerosolize spores and worsen the problem. A HEPA air purifier in the room can help reduce airborne spores temporarily.

A proper inspection involves more than a visual check; it identifies the mold species and maps the moisture source, which is often a hidden AC condensation leak or seepage from the recent humidity. Since your villa is in Jumeirah, near the coast, salt-laden air can also accelerate corrosion in AC drainage systems, a common culprit. The inspection will determine if remediation is needed and its scope. For a case with visible growth and health symptoms, this is a high priority.
