AC mold back after bleach: DIY fix or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking a bit for a couple of months, and now we’ve found a patch of black mold, about the size of a dinner plate, on the back of the bedroom wall where the unit is. We wiped it with bleach but it came back darker within a week. Is this something we can handle ourselves with a proper cleaner from ACE, or should we just call a professional company for mold remediation, and what’s the typical cost for a small job like this in Dubai?

Bleach only removes surface discoloration and often drives mold deeper into porous materials like drywall or concrete, which is why it returned darker. The leak has created an ongoing moisture source, allowing the colony to thrive inside your wall cavity where you can't see or reach it.

In Dubai's high humidity, this hidden growth will continue to spread and can compromise indoor air quality through the AC system. For a recurring patch that large, DIY cleaners from ACE are not adequate. The source moisture from the AC leak must be repaired first, and the affected wall material likely requires cutting out and replacement.

Professional remediation is strongly advised. They will use moisture meters to map the full extent of the damage, set up containment to prevent spores from spreading to other rooms, and remove contaminated materials safely. A final post-remediation verification test is the only way to confirm the mold is truly gone.

Costs for a small contained job like this are generally not exorbitant, but always request an onsite assessment for an accurate scope and quote. Look for a provider that offers documented before-and-after testing from an accredited lab to verify the results.
